Ryan Hart was born and raised in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts as the oldest of 3 children. Ryan attributes his work ethic and dedication to his mother, who had to raise three young kids on her own after their father passed away at an early age.
He grew up playing sports. He began ice skating at 2, playing hockey by the age of 5. Also played baseball and basketball. However, cooking was a constant presence in his childhood.

Ryan’s love and passion for cooking comes from his Nana Jane. She was always cooking. Sunday dinners were a can’t miss tradition. He was always in the kitchen with her at a young age. She had an extensive garden and she used to make her own preserves and even made alcohol in the basement. 
Early in his professional career, Ryan spent 4 years in special education as a one-on-one paraprofessional for kids aged elementary to high school in Boston. This passion has stayed with him to this day. Since 2006, he has volunteered for EC Week at Camp Fatima in New Hampshire. Camp Fatima is a special education camp that is free to all campers and families, run by volunteers and donations. 

The Culinary Journey Begins

Ryan’s culinary journey began in Boston, working at many different mom and pop bars, restaurants, and pizza shops. He even worked at Fenway Park for five seasons. 

His first leadership role was Head Cook Bred Gourmet in Lower Mills, Dorchester. It was a fast-paced environment where he’d open and close the restaurant, operate 3 stations, and train all the new team members.
Welcome to Atlanta
When Ryan was 28, he moved to Atlanta when his girlfriend Ciara had the opportunity to move down for grad school. He followed and they began their new journey together.

At King + Duke, he was Lead Line Cook, where he proudly worked the woodfired station over a 24-foot hearth. Here, he fell in love with wood fire and the art and finesse required to cook with woodfire. It's a skill he treasures and will continue to learn.
The next step, and where he met Chef Stuart, was the move to Lyla Lila. He earned his way to Sous Chef. During his time at Lyla Lila, the restaurant achieved much critical acclaim, including NY Times Restaurants’ List in 2021 and receiving 2 James Beard Nominations in 2022.  
Ryan and Stuart connected through a shared love of creating food and sports. There is an unspoken rhythm in the kitchen, and they work together in a collaborative spirit. Their passion for ingredients and creativity flow together seamlessly.  

Your 3rd Spot
Now, Ryan has reunited with Chef Stuart at Your 3rd Spot as Executive Sous Chef. Ryan, and his 18 years of culinary experience, was drawn to Your 3rd Spot by their connection and a desire to be part of a team that was willing to break the current industry culture.

Together, they’ve recruited one of the greatest culinary teams in Atlanta.  

Their globally inspired small plates menu highlights the belief that dining should be an experience and allows great ingredients to shine. Ryan’s meticulous eye for detail allows him to see things in a way that is unconventional- seamlessly blending flavors together while executing techniques at a high level. Still a teacher at heart, Ryan then uses his natural ability to communicate each dish and coach the team from a place of understanding, raising everyone around him to another level.

Outside the Kitchen
When not in the kitchen, you can find Ryan spending time with his beagle, Maximus Aurelius, cooking, reading cookbooks, playing video games, and following his beloved Boston sports teams.
